On vacation… do as the tourists do….
I hopped on a cruiser for a quick 10 mile jaunt/ out and back to the grocery store. Not counting a quick spin on the 29er single speed mountain bike a few weeks ago, this was the first non-training ride I had done in a long time. Having only one gear makes everything simple. And that wide cushion-y seat is so comfy for short distances.
Luckily, it was a little cloudy and so the only thing to fend off was the humidity of Florida in July. The reprieve from the sun was enjoyable. Even without bike shorts and shoes, it still felt great to be on a bike for the first time in a few days. The circular pedaling motion always calms my mind. There’s a rudimentary bike path that parallels the main road along this stretch of the pan handle. Tourists of all sorts hop on bikes and push the pedals. It’s obvious that some haven’t been on a bike in quite a while, but they quickly remember the simple pleasure and it shows in their faces.
